Seagull Trophy PL Instructions - 6 June 2003

To all Patrol Leaders:

The inter Patrol competition, the Seagull Trophy, takes place on Friday, 6th June 2003. You will need to arrive at the Scout Hall in full scout uniform at 6.45pm (for a prompt 7.00pm start). The presentation of the Trophy will be at 9.45pm at the Scout Hall.  You will need to enlist the services of a parent who will drive you around the immediate area to travel from base to base.  Your driver is welcome to assist/help your Patrol with the activities of the evening.

One test, as is the tradition of the Seagull Trophy, is that of Patrol attendance. You should ensure that every invested Patrol member is at the competition.  Your recruits are also, of course, welcome to attend but their non-attendance will not count against your Patrol.

Each member in your Patrol needs to:

  • Meet in full Scout Uniform at the Scout hall. (Hint: scarf, woggle, lanyard, belt, hat, proper black or brown leather shoes).

In addition, your Patrol requires the following:

  • A streetmap that has sufficient detail to show all the roads in Constantia, Bergvliet and Meadowridge.
  • One 600mm green stick for each Patrol member
  • Sufficient flower for each Scout to make a twist.
  • A hiking gas stove (not the big Cadac cylinders)
  • A small billy
  • A mug
  • Tea bag, Coffee, Milk and sugar

If you have any questions you are welcome to phone or e-mail Nigel or Kelly. Make sure that you look at the pre-event Task below!

Good Luck

Pre-event Task

  1. The 6th June is the anniversary of an incredibly famous operation in World War II.  The Seagull Trophy is taking place on this anniversary.  What is this day the anniversary of?
  2. What is the lattitude and longitude of the Scout hall at the main entrance/door?  You may use decimal degrees OR decimal minutes OR degrees, minutes and seconds but you must make sure that this is made obvious on your answer sheet.  Do not use any other co-ordinate system.
  3. How many test wickets did Allan Donald take during his South African Test career?
  4. This month is the 50th anniversary of the first climbing of a very high and famous mountain. What is the altitude of this mountain?
  5. How old is the 2nd Bergvliet Group?

Hand in the answers to these questions at the start of the competition at 7.00pm at Inspection at the Scout hall.

The idea here is that you actually go and do some research and get your Patrol to help you.
