2nd Bergvliet

David Glass' Article on the Beaver Rose Competition 1996

As always, the competition took place at Glencairn and took the form of a standing camp. The first day of the Competition was rather stormy, but of course, the judges (who were sleeping in nice, cosy BUILDINGS) decided it should go on!

Four 2nd Bergvliet Patrols took part against a grand total of seven other Patrols. Activities included first aid, pancake cooking, making a hanging larder and a flag toggle, as well as campfire skits.

As always, everyone got involved doing everything possible to get those damn elusive points. Even old Savvas came out of his shell at the campfire and showed us how he really thinks!??!

Of course, when the moment of truth came at the fateful hour of three, the inexorable Swift Patrol won (thanks to the brilliance of their UNDERRATED Patrol Leader and Second (myself and Ryan Cox), even if it was only by one point!

However, I expect some pretty serious competition from other Patrols next year. With luck they might come close to us!!
