2003

The Rayner Trophy takes the form of a tough overnight hike for senior Scouts, usually in mountains unknown to the Scouts. After never having won this competition and yet having come so close for the last 10 years, the hoodoo was finally broken in 2003 when our A team won the event with Kenneth Crombie as PL. This team also won the special award for environmental awareness which was a copy of SASOL Proteas for coming first in this section of the competition.

The Rayner Trophy was held in the western Riviersonderend Mountains above Villiersdorp from the farm Boskloof hiking north through Silver Stream and on to Kleinfontein. Activities included a water rescue, abseiling, an obstacle course, orienteering, cooking, spanish windlass, and a shadow stick amongst many other activities.

Our B and C teams lead by PL's Robert Schmid and Simon Abbott came 13th and 14th out of 26 participating teams. Congratulations to the B and C teams for upholding the 2nd Bergvliet name.
